An oil painting on cardboard captures the heart of Prague's Josefov as perhaps only old photographs and memories recall it – in the warm, golden atmosphere of the 19th century. The composition is dominated by the Old New Synagogue with its characteristic Gothic roof, and beside it stands the Jewish Town Hall with its iconic tower and clock. The warm ochre and brick-red coloring of the buildings contrasts with the delicately turquoise sky, across which birds glide, and the entire scene breathes the tranquility of long-past times.

In the foreground of the painting, small figures of passersby move about, lending the work liveliness and scale. The artist Romana Nejdlová captured this place with an inimitable sensitivity – with a slightly naïvist style full of warmth and nostalgia. The painting is executed in oil on cardboard measuring 20 × 35 cm and is set in an elegant black-and-gold frame with a mat; the overall dimensions including the frame are 33 × 48 cm.
