Purim
Tento svátek připomíná vítězství nad Hamanem, ministrem perského krále Achašveroše, který chtěl vyhladit židovský národ. Celý příběh je popsán v knize Ester. Právě Ester totiž svou duchaplností pogromu zabránila. Masakr se měl odehrát 13. den měsíce adar. Den určil Haman losem. I to je důvod, proč se někdy Purimu říká Svátek losů. V gregoriánském kalendáři připadají oslavy obvykle na přelom února a března.
Jak oslavujeme: Do popředí se dostává bujarost. Pořádají se karnevaly, víno teče proudem, hraje se divadlo a pořádají se koncerty. Ovšem se svátkem se pojí taky 4 důležité povinnosti. Je třeba číst z knihy Ester a vždy, když zazní jméno Haman, řehtačkami, dupáním či pískáním udělat co největší rámus. Také se posílají dárky, alespoň dvěma lidem. A to samé platí také o darování jídla.
Co jíme: Svátku Purim předchází půst, takže je o jídlo tradičně velký zájem. Ryby, chaly, ovoce, zelenina, sladkosti a víno. Hodně vína. Dospělí mají vypít více vína než obvykle. Pomyslným cílem je nepoznat rozdíl mezi laskavým Mordechajem a zákeřným Hamanem. Samotný Haman se na stole objevuje taky v podobě trojúhelníčků z křupavého těsta naplněných buď povidly nebo mákem – Hamanovy uši.
Co si přejeme: „Purim sameach“, tedy „veselý Purim“. Někteří si ale neodpustí doplnit přání slovíčkem „kosher“. To proto, aby lidé i ve své nevázanosti nezapomněli na vhodné chování.
