Ha-Shoter Azulai (The Policeman)

Abraham Azulai (Shaike Ophir) is a policeman in Jaffa, an ancient port town in Israel. In the course of his profession, he regularly suffers from his overly kind-hearted nature and vainly waits for a promotion, while his superiors, on the other hand, are eager to send him into early retirement. The Jaffa underworld, suspecting that Azulai's departure would also mean the end of good old times for local criminals, decides to come to his aid and orchestrates an unexpectedly large operation... One of the most popular Israeli comedies of the 1970s received a prestigious Oscar nomination in the category of Best Foreign Language Film and also won the Golden Globe in the same category.
