Franz Joseph I (1830–1916) – Emperor of Austria and King of Bohemia, who ruled for an impressive 68 years and became a symbol of stability and tradition of the monarchy. His reign was one of the longest in European history.

The Uncrowned King of Bohemia – although Franz Joseph I was formally King of Bohemia, he was never crowned in Prague. The coronation as King of Bohemia was promised for many years but never took place, which caused tensions between Czech politicians and the Viennese court.

Ruler of a Turbulent Era – during his reign, Austria-Hungary underwent major transformations: from the revolutionary year 1848, through the establishment of the Dual Monarchy in 1867, to modernization and industrial development. During his era, Prague became one of the most important centers of the monarchy.

Personal Tragedies – his life was marked by severe personal losses: the suicide of his son Rudolf, the assassination of his wife Sisi, and finally the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which triggered the First World War.

“I was rarely spared suffering for my people.” – the words of a man who devoted his entire life to the service of the monarchy.

A matching mug with Empress Sisi is also available!
