    חַמְסָה - Chamsa (Hebrew for "five") - one of the oldest protective symbols of the Middle East. Miriam's hand, as it is also called, symbolizes protection from the evil eye, good luck and God's blessing. The five fingers of the hand recall the five pillars of faith and the five senses.
