Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie (1837–1898) – known by her nickname Sissi, a Bavarian princess of the House of Wittelsbach, who became one of the most admired and tragic figures in European history. After her marriage to Franz Joseph I, she became Empress of Austria and Queen of Bohemia.

Crowned Queen of Hungary – unlike the Bohemian coronation, which never took place, Sissi was ceremonially crowned Queen of Hungary in 1867 under the name Erzsébet. The Hungarians adored her and she returned their love – Hungarian became her favourite language.

Icon of beauty and free spirit – Sissi was famous for her extraordinary beauty, slender figure, and long hair. She despised the rigid Viennese court etiquette and longed for freedom. She passionately loved horse riding, travelling, and poetry.

Tragic fate – her life was marked by personal tragedies: a complicated relationship with her mother-in-law, the death of her daughter Sophie, and the suicide of her son Rudolf. She herself died tragically – assassinated by an Italian anarchist in Geneva.

"Freedom is the only thing my soul longs for."

A matching mug with Emperor Franz Joseph I is also available!
